Heath Residence

Garden design for Langley residence. This back garden is located in a new development in the Township of Langley with sweeping views to woods in the Agricultural Land Reserve. The clients wanted a curvilinear natural garden which they could walk through and admire from different points and especially from the main living area upstairs; they also wanted a more attractive fence to screen an existing chainlink fence and to give privacy.

The design comprises an oval shaped grass area intersected by concrete stepping pavers and connected to grass paths from which the planting beds can be explored and appreciated up close. Plants include gorgeous and fragrant flowering shrubs and perennials to create an English style romantic feel, underpinned with the cool greens of shade loving plants for the shadier north facing aspects. Large sized maples—Acer shirasawanum ‘Jordan’, Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ and Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’—provide focal points and provide a more mature look to the garden. The custom fence consists of cedar painted in dark blue and with extended posts and horizontal beam atop every second panel to allow for rambling climbers.
