Ash Bank

Proposed design for back garden in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. This back garden sloped steeply and the challenge was to create some flat, useable areas whilst minimizing the need for major retaining walls. The proposed design consists of a block-paved terrace with retaining wall at the rear of the house and a series of block-paved and edged gravel steps leading down to a flat grassy space and parking area at the bottom of the property. Planting was minimal, consisting of several flowering quince and Japanese cherry trees, and flowering shrubs such as guelder rose, buddleia, Japanese quince and dogwood, sited in two groups at the edges of the site.
